Re: i have a couple of questions for ya ll

This is very interesting. I have a friend with a small foundry, and I am always making patterns of stuff for him to cast. I had heard of a lost foam technique, but have never tried it myself. Is the foam just regular craft store styrofoam, or is it denser like the building insulation board? Does the...

Re: some pics of my first build

I've used a similar changer to add lowers to a maverick before. It hinges like an early sho-bud all-pull, like a fingertip and professional, but with fewer parts. A ZB changer works the same way. The bar raises at the top and lowers at the bottom. It would have return springs at the bottom like any ...

Re: Volume and tone control/

The capacitor on my emmons is .047.
If you want a smooth gradual adjustment, use an audio taper pot. If you want a "boo-waah" effect, you may want to try a bigger cap. and a linear taper pot, as the bigger cap will cut more highs, and the linear pot will cut it all with a smaller rotation of the knob.

Re: Volume and tone control/

I think you want a 500K audio taper pot, and I'm not sure what value capacitor to use off the top of my head. I'll try to look at a few guitars and see what they've got and get back too you.

Re: Volume and tone control/

I don't care for a volume knob mounted on the steel, I'd rather use the pedal. However, I have had several steel that had a tone control, and I used it quite a bit on some of them. Most steels with a tone control will also allow you to switch the tone control out of the circuit.

Re: Band Saw???

I have a saw that looks a lot like that one. It's a craftsman from Sears. I keep a block of bees wax by the saw, and after every few aluminum cuts I'll rub a little wax on the moving saw blade. I get a lot more use out of my blades since I started doing this.

Re: Requirements for membership to this forum.....

I wondered why he just didn't ask on the forum, as there are lots of us who could have helped him, if parts were realy what he was after. He seemed to know about steels, I gave him my number...

Re: bone nuts

I've made a few nuts from antlers. They can work pretty good, as long as you stay away from the pithy parts. You don't get as much material for your trouble as you get with a good sized piece of bone though. The antler nuts I've made had sentimental meaning to the instrument owner, that's why I did ...

bone nuts

I posted this on the SGF, in response to someone's question about oversized nut blanks. I thought I'd post it here, just in case any of you had not discovered this source of clean, cheap bone. If you need an odd sized nut blank, and have a bandsaw, go to the pet store, and look through the dog bones...
