Re: Steel Project #4

Although I am a hobbyist, my aim is to develop a guitar as if I were to build it for a pro who was going to use it in the studio (for quietness, tone and record-ability) and traverse the globe on an airplane (weight). Bent, two things... 1) what separates a hobbyist from a professional is payment. ...

Re: Metal versus Wood End Plates?

Fred, If you were to use wood, I can't see that they would need to be built as "endplates", in the normal sense of the word. Couldn't you just cap the ends of the cabinet? Seems to me that if a proper joint were used... Say, dovetails... That the cabinet would be plenty sturdy. Then whatever you wer...

Re: What "pushes" in a PP system?

...If you have followed the animations and my description so far, you will see that there is no conflict between simultaneous raise and lower. The raise moves free of the lower and the string gets raised, hence the term "dominant raise". Hi Georg, Between you and Burt you got me straightened out ;)...

Re: What "pushes" in a PP system?

Jeffrey, The PP finger is in fact two segments, side by side. One segment has the string going over it, the other doesn't... Burt, I'm glad you chimed in :D . With the fingers either resting against, or pulling against the body, i'm starting to see why people love the sound that a PP makes. I've no...

Re: Measurements for fingers?

Dave-M, Thanks for the suggestion! Building a test board will save me a lot of grief! Haha! Bent, Once again, you come thru with the good stuff! Thank you for the explanation, and the pics, too! You are quite a craftsman. Question, though... Does the v-slot seem to weaken the bend at all? Or does it...

Re: What "pushes" in a PP system?

Hi Georg, I've already set my mind to building an all pull system, so my questions regarding the PP are purely to satisfy my curiosity. I hope you don't feel that I'm wasting your time. My mind is generally a mess  and sometimes i cant even sleep for trying to solve a puzzle. But I've gotta be...

Re: What "pushes" in a PP system?

The link that Georg Gave me (see link above), in order to understand the mechanics of a push-pull changer, made sense to me... At first. But something about it has been bugging me, so I went back to it again last night. Now something's not making sense, and I was hoping someone could clear it up a b...

Re: Measurements for fingers?

Jeffrey, My opinion is that the wraparound is the best. Why? because it gives you more throw on the finger and this in turn makes for a greater possibility of achieving those lowers that require a great throw(like lowering the 3rd G# a whole tone) Hi Bent, Thanks for the help. Yea, the wraparound s...
