Newest McGregor Build Completed! LA LUNA

Lilah and Luna2704-=.jpg It's taken me a long time to bring this one to completion. LA LUNA, the current steel of my dreams is finally finished. She has Lacewood necks and aprons, and an African Mahogany, stair stepped deck. These amazing, clear, acrylic, Lunar Phase fret boards, that allow the ful...

Re: Double 8 Tunings

Yeah, having so many ways to get major, minor and 6th chords without slanting is wonderful, and when you do dig into slanting and pulling strings, all sorts of 7th, 9th, diminished, augmented, and demented chords start popping out. I'm still finding new things in these tunings every day. Scales, phr...

Re: Double 8 Tunings

I do. I think I'm greatly in the minority, though. I've purposely made myself stick with these two tunings for a long time, so that I can really explore them to the fullest. I use the high C6 (hi to low G E C A G E C A), so both my tunings are the same, except the C6 is 3-1/2 steps higher. I find th...

Re: McGregor Steel 2nd build in progress

Thanks, Guys.
I'm hoping get a little time this weekend to work on it a little, and maybe get her finished over the Christmas holidays. I'll post more pictures when I'm further along.

McGregor Steel 2nd build in progress

Near side 8783.jpg Here, I'm having fun making a double 8 console using recycled end plates and key heads. This is just a dry fit to see how everything will look. African Mahogany deck, w/Lacewood necks and side rails. That's a test version in the photos of the laser etched, Lexan fingerboards prov...

Re: Wood body thickness?

Thank you all. I've finally gotten back onto this project, and appreciate your feedback. I'm new at this, and I think I tend to over build. What I've come up with at present is 3/4" (19mm) decks and rails, with the necks just a little thicker, at 13/16". These decks are of African Mahogany, which ha...

Nice lines. It's a pleasing, interesting shape.

Re: Playing Natural Harmonics

I am confused. Forgive me if I've misunderstood. Are you talking about getting harmonics as a standard guitarist would by touching the string at, say, the 4th, 5th, or 12th fret, only with your bar instead of a finger? This doesn't seem very useful to me. On steel, the common way to achieve harmonic...

Wood body thickness?

I'm building a couple of double neck consoles using pedal steel end plates, and wonder what the usual thickness of the basic body parts of a pedal steel are. I've got some Hard Maple, but will likely be using figured Soft Maple on at least one of them. They will have wooden necks. One will be a doub...
