Ahhhh, nothing like the smell of rancid coolant first thing in the morning! It's even better if it comes out BLACK!
If you've ever experienced this then you already know about bacteria control.

Re: Top Tickness
Just slightly off topic but something that may be of interest. since you are talking woods and thinknesses I thought that you might light a reference to the Janka Scale. This is a rating of hardness of the different species of woods. There is also a pretty close correlation between hardness, density...

Re: Changer Axel
My guess is that if you had to take the motor apart and that shaft is bluish, that's a result of overheating the shaft. Bearing failure? the bluish cast is oxidation from when it's heated as in heat treating.

Re: Installing a Bronze (Oilite) bushing
Absolutely Bent, you would always want to ream AFTER installation as the bushing compresses slightly as you found out. It's better to plan ahead and leave sufficient material in the bore ahead of time to make sure that you get a full cleanup. Piloting the bushing gives it a good start, helps to set ...

Installing a Bronze (Oilite) bushing
Heating the component with the hole and freezing the component going into the hole is the best way to shrink fit two parts together but not with an oil impregnated bushing. I think that when they come into contact with each other, the heat transferrence will cause the Oilite to bleed out. Warming th...

Re: A Side Thought Regarding The "Lubrication" Question.
Yes Richard, you are absolutely correct in all of your statements. Precision is the key to longevity. You must have concentric bores and diameters with a good surface finish and close fit to keep the wear factor to the absolute minimum, but on the other hand if you achieve these two criteria, then t...

Re: A Side Thought Regarding The "Lubrication" Question.
That's very true Stormy. The dry lube coating would be the ideal in this situation. It is also used extensively in the aerospace industry where components are not easily reached for lubrication but absolutely must not sieze. If had to spec it out on numerous parts such as missle release hooks for th...

Re: A Side Thought Regarding The "Lubrication" Question.
I believe that the first part of the equation was the application. ATF was designed for hydrolic applications not lubrication. Its design characteristic is to provide just enough lubrication to prevent galling of components but yet allow the friction components in a transmission too 'shed' most of t...
