The double changer idea has been around since at least the 70s. One company that made them was called Bossan, I think. It's a good idea though, and I'm surprised that it hasn't caught on more.

We used leather dye at Dekley, and I don't know of any that faded.

Georg, I think the axle wasn't the main problem with your original Dekley. To me it looks like the anchoring underneath is way too weak. #8 machine screws thru some thin aluminum. At Dekley, we used polyurethane to finish the wooden guitars, and never had any fading or bleeding problems. I never did any woodworking or finishing, so I can't help with any ideas. Leather dye on the raw wood? That's what we used at Dekley.
