Re: My First attempt at air brushing a sunburst

Dave,
That has to be one of the most stunning examples of curl and quilt I've seen.. The sunburst shading is very nice..well blended and subtle. Really like it. Can't blame you for keeping that baby, definintely a one of a kind. As always excellent workmanship

Re: First pickup

Bent, Not sure if anyone mentioned it but Another source for the copper shielding foil is someplace that deals in stained glass. They sell an adhesive backed foil. You can get it in single sheets. Also seen it on Ebay. I've used it to shield the cavities of a Les Paul style guitar and a lap steel ( ...

Left handed Steel Questions

Like to pick your brains gentlemen. I'm about to undertake my second steel project and have a few ( hopefully not too dumb) questions. Let me preface this post by saying that I am a dyed in the wool lefty. No changing that. I play banjo, guitar and a little fiddle, all on left handed instruments. My...

Gluck style changer?

Has anyone had any experience using a Gluck style changer. I'm getting the urge to build again and I came across the changer design. I built my first changer with standard two piece riveted arm without bearing. Can go either way, the design looks really simple and I already have some delrin (impregn...

Re: First Lap Steel Finished

Thanks Bent, Although it's my first lap steel I can't take the credit for just starting as I built my first banjo over 30 years ago, got back into building in the last 10 years. I posted a pic of the pedal steel I built in the introductions section. Since I've retired I'm getting more time at it..My...

First Lap Steel Finished

Finally finished first lap steel. 3 piece curly maple laminated with ebony strips, bridge and peghead overlay. Through the body strings, brass saddle and nut. EMG HZ 4a P/U wired with coil tap. It sounds good with lots of sustain. It's finished with tru-oil applied with progressively finer grits of ...

Best choice for homemade pickup?

I'm closing in on my first lapsteel and its time for a pickup..I just built a pickup winder and want to wind my own single coil..Looking for suggestions as to what magnets to use ( Alnico 2 vs. 5, steel?) I'm planning using c6 tuning looking for that clean country, hawaiian sound.
